For this series, I wanted to focus on light and shadow. During (Covid19) lockdown, I have noticed that I enjoy taking pictures of lights and shadows -- something that sparked my interest. I had started to learn and truly see; to see the light and utilize them in many different ways. As a Christian, there are a lot of Bible verses about light. One of them states, “When Jesus spoke again to the people he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12). With the pandemic and all these other events going on, I always read the Bible to ease my mind. I wanted these photos to be a light of hope and dream. I took advantage of different times of the day to capture different types of moods and environments while lockdown at home. I enjoyed the challenge of being very minimal, relying mostly on mother nature. My goal was to be very poetic with the photos. I wanted to find ways to shift the viewer’s attention away from whatever they were looking at and toward their perceptual process. Capturing the binary nature of the universe with creativity to disarm any negativity and to give hope. Ironically, I wanted to take the most mundane and incidental photos and make the image compelling.
